Why Burma? |
Starting in 2008 we have been visiting the Thai Burmese border and partnering with a variety of organizations who care for the needs of hundreds of thousands of refugees who have escaped a 60 year genocide in Burma for asylum in Thailand. Although Burmese minority groups are officially welcome back in Burma, it will take years before they are welcomed back into a place that they can make 'home'. Until then, this refugee population must find ways to survive on the Thai side of the border or in the surrounding jungles. Many families that cannot find work in Thailand see no avenue for survival other than to sell their bodies, or those of their children.
